Submission of book reviews
A current subscription to the journal is required of all authors of book reviews at the time of submission. Reviews may be submitted on books that were published no more than three years ago, and for which no more than two other reviews have already appeared in other journals. Book reviews may be written in Spanish or English. A review of a single book may be between 550 and 1,000 words in length, while a review of two or three books on related topics may be as long as 1,750 words. These maximum word counts include a brief bibliography, if the author chooses to include one. Reviews should provide both a detailed summary and a critical evaluation of each book’s contents. The reviews should be prepared according to MLA style. Writers of reviews are encouraged to consult the model reviews posted on the Hispanic Journal website.
The Hispanic Journal especially encourages the review of books received by the journal. The website provides a list of these books. A potential reviewer may request to borrow one book at a time from the Hispanic Journal, but that individual must have or initiate a subscription to the Hispanic Journal at the time s/he makes the request to borrow. Books may be borrowed for a period of two months, with an option to renew for a third month. The Hispanic Journal will mail the book to the potential reviewer, but that individual must pay for the book to be mailed back to the journal office at the end of the borrowing period.
An original and one copy of the review should be submitted. The original should contain no reference to the author, but the title page of the copy must contain the author’s name, postal and email addresses, and telephone and fax numbers We also expect a two-paragraph cover letter, introducing oneself and one’s review and indicating the word count of the review. Also please complete the top portion of the Book Review Submission form, which can be downloaded from our website. Unpublished originals will be returned to the author only if s/he provides us with a self-addressed, stamped envelope at the time of submission.

Resubmissions after acceptance
Articles, reviews, and interviews accepted for publication need to be re-submitted both in hard copy and in electronic format on a 3.5 inch PC-formatted diskette or on a CD. The articles must be written in WordPerfect (6.1 or more recent version) or in Microsoft Word (for Windows 98 or above). For administrative reasons, we will not accept articles sent via e-mail; they must be sent on a diskette or CD via regular postal mail. Diskettes and CDs cannot be returned. Use only one font style and size throughout the article, preferably Times New Roman, 12 point. Do not use any special or customized style settings. Do not indent anything other than a quotation of more than four lines, as per MLA style guidelines. Use one tab (5 character spaces) to begin each paragraph. Double-space and left-justify all text except for block quotes. Only a limited use of charts and diagrams will be accepted. These should be supplied as high-resolution, camera-ready printouts, not in electronic format. All articles published become the property of the Hispanic Journal.
